Henry “Hank” M. Anderson, Jr. was born April 20, 1965, in Florence, SC, to parents Ann Sompayrac and Dr. Henry M. Anderson, Sr. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Francis Marion in 1988, and his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1991. He attended the National College for DUI Defense. Hank was a member of the Theta Xi Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Hank served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable John Henry Waller, Jr. He practiced law with Saleeby and Cox from 1998 to 2021 at Anderson Law Firm. He was a public defender for Marion County and Florence County.
He was a member of the Florence County Bar Association, SC Bar, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, SC Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and DUI Defense Lawyers Association.
He was licensed to practice before the U.S. Federal Court, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 2021, Hank was honored posthumously with the Ralph King Anderson, Jr. Service Award presented by the Florence County Bar Association in recognition of his outstanding service to the SC Bar and SC citizenry.
He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Florence, where he served in various positions through the years. Having lived in Florence all his life, Hank was active in the community. He loved coaching his kids’ soccer teams and participating in all their activities.
Henry “Hank” M. Anderson, Jr. died on October 29, 2021. He is survived by his spouse, Leah Holland Anderson; children, Emily A. Parnell (Alan), Henry M. Anderson, III (Jasmine), Sarah Catherine, and Charles H. Anderson (Grayson); grandchildren, Brooks O. Parnell, Walker C. Knotts and Henry M. Anderson, IV; his parents; and his siblings, Ann M. Anderson and Catherine A. Wyse.
