Bruce Welborn White (1905–1984)

Born in Anderson County, son of Luther Henry and Jeffie Welborn White. Educated at USC, A.B., 1928; LL.B. 1930.

Practiced in Union County for 54 years. Counsel, Federal Land Bank, 1933–35. City Attorney, 1948–50; County Attorney, 1966–76. Senator, Union County, 1947–54. Secretary, South Carolina Board of Public Welfare, 1937–41. Chairman of Trustees, South Carolina State College, 1960–68; Trustee, 1956–60, 1968–70. Delegate, 1956 Democratic National Convention.

Chairman of Administrative Board, Grace Methodist Church; teacher for thirty-two years, Men’s Bible Class; trustee, Epworth Children’s Home, 1950–58. Married Martha Rebecca Owings. Two sons, Bruce W. White, Jr., M.D. and Wain L. White, M.D.

Respective Counselor, dedicated governmental leader and selfless churchman.
