Born in York, South Carolina, October 8, 1923; educated in York High School and University of South Carolina; AB, LLB; Editor, Law Review; US Marines, WWII. Married Elizabeth Marshall May 5, 1945; 4 children, 10 grandchildren.
Commenced his legal career with Haynsworth and Haynsworth in Greenville, SC in 1945. In 1954, he became head of the litigation department of the firm at age 31 and later became general counsel for Daniel Construction Company. He was managing partner from 1969 until 1985 and remained active until 1995.
He was a Fellow of American College of Trial Lawyers; listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Marquis, Who’s Who in America and In the World.
