Charles H. Gibbs, “Charley”, was born to December 22, 1915 at Charleston, South Carolina to Anne Simons Ball Gibbs and John E. Gibbs. Graduated from College of Charleston, 1936; Duke University Law School, 1939.
United States Navy — 1941–45. Lt. Commander when separated. Charleston City Council, 1947–50.
Admitted South Carolina Bar, 1939. Practiced with Huger Sinkler. 1949 partnership formed with Albert Simons, Jr., Sinkler, Gibbs and Simons. Firm became Sinkler and Boyd, P.A. “of counsel” 1985–93. Specialized in admiralty and litigation. Active in all state and federal courts. Member Charleston County, South Carolina and American Bar Association.
Survivors: wife, Margie Lee Street Gibbs, sons, Charles H. Gibbs, Jr., and Benjamin Simon Gibbs.
Member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church.
Charley expressed his love for his profession and for lawyers by bequeathing $1,000 to the Charleston County Bar Association.
