Tommy, as he was known to friends and acquaintances alike, was a native Greenvillian. He was a graduate from Furman University and received his law degree from University of Virginia. In 1952, Tommy began law practice with Love, Thornton and Blythe, which later became Love, Thornton, Arnold and Thomason. Tommy served his state as a Legislator, a Special Circuit Judge and Circuit Solicitor for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. He was twice awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 1989 and 1993.
Tommy worked tirelessly for Furman University and served as university counsel during Furman’s transition to becoming an independent university.
His life was dedicated to Christian service and he loved his church, Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, where for years Tommy taught the adult Sunday School Class which ultimately was named after him.
It has been said about Tommy that whenever something good was done in Greenville, Tommy Thomason somehow was involved.
Tommy was devoted to his wife, Jean Folk Thomason, and his three children, Kim, Rocky and Ashley. He was more than devoted, he delighted in his family.
