Edward Hodges was educated at the University of South Carolina, where he received both an A.B. and an LL.B. degree and at Georgetown University, where he received LL.M. and S.J.D. degrees.
As a successful practitioner, he contributed much through public office and through the Methodist Church. He served as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney General from 1943 until his death in 1954 and became eminent as an authority on antitrust law.

At her death in 1958, Miss Moida Hodges, a devoted sister of Mr. Hodges, left her estate of some eighty thousand dollars as an endowment to the University of South Carolina School of Law, in his memory.
