George Duncan Bellinger graduated from Furman University, where he received an A.B. degree and studied law privately.
In 1881, he married Miss Frances Jane O’Bannon.
A most able man and lawyer, with versatile interests, he headed a bank and a manufacturing company, was a member of the legislature, served as Master in Equity, served two terms as Solicitor, was a leader in the Constitutional Convention of 1895 and was Attorney General for two terms. In 1902, he moved from Barnwell to Columbia, where he practiced law until his death.
General Bellinger was a worthy father of a worthy son, G. Duncan Bellinger, Jr., who, from 1935 to 1960, served as a Judge of the Fifth Circuit in South Carolina.
