John Munford Scott, a scion of the low country, a true gentleman and scholar, was born and reared in Florence. He was truly a son of the Pee Dee.
He graduated from the University of South Carolina, receiving his academic degree in 1932 and his Bachelor of Law degree in 1934. He was graduated with distinction and immediately entered into the practice of law in his home town, Florence. His eminence at the Bar is indicated by the success of his practice and by the offices of distinction he held in the County and State Bar Associations.
He enjoyed the honor, respect and admiration of his classmates; the loyalty of his many friends was bold and strong. He wore a heart-felt cloak of goodwill, Christian fellowship, and rugged honesty.
There will never be another like him, but so fortunate were we to know him for a while and until he traded his cloak for a crown.
