Lewis Wardlaw Perrin (1886–1950)

Lewis Wardlaw Perrin, known to his many friends as “Buck”, was born in Abbeville. Married Elizabeth Patterson, Converse College graduate, of Bellefontaine, Ohio. Their children: Elizabeth Perrin Powell, L.W. Perrin, Jr., and Edward Patterson Perrin.

Graduated from the University of South Carolina with an A.B. degree in 1908. Captain undefeated 1907 football team, first Student Body President, 1908, read law, admitted to the Bar in 1910, practiced in Spartanburg.

President Spartanburg County and South Carolina Bar Associations; Deacon, Chairman Board of Deacons, Superintendent Sunday Schools, First Presbyterian Church; President Spartanburg Rotary Club, District Govenor Rotary International. Quoting Honorable Donald Russell, U.S. District Judge; “I developed the highest respect and deepest affection for Buck Perrin, not simply as a lawyer of rare talent and outstanding ability, but as a gentleman of unfailing graciousness, of impeccable deportment, of the highest standards of professional ethics, and invariably engaging manners. Buck was one whose high motives, inflexible high standards … and integrity … (served as) a model deserving that affection, regard, and respect he commanded from me and all who knew him.”
