Shuler Augustus Black (1901–1970)

Shuler Black was born in Georgetown, the son of Dr. David and Mignonette B.T. Black. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. degree in 1922 and obtained an LL.B. from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1924.

He served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Bar Association, as President of the Richland County Bar Association, and was a member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, the Association of Life Insurance Counsel, South Carolina Bar Association, South Carolina State Bar, and the American Bar Association. He served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Carolina Children’s Home.

Mr. Black was well known for his expertise in the field of insurance law and was particularly accomplished in the area of life insurance.

He was noted for his warm geniality, friendliness and devotion to family and many friends.

He had a perceptive mind, a keen intellect and great compassion. He was a man of intelligence, industry and integrity.
