Born on March 25, 1920 in Charleston, deRossett Myers was the youngest son of Thomas Englehart Myers and Louisa Rebecca Bacot Myers. Everyone knew him as “deRo”. Upon graduation from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, he received a Bachelors degree in 1941 from the University of the South. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
deRo served as an aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the War ended, he attended Duke University Law School and graduated in 1948. Upon returning to Charleston he entered practice with Stoney, Crosland & Pritchard. In 1964 deRo, Ed Pritchard, Sr., Bo Morrison, and Ira Bloom established the firm of Pritchard, Myers, Morrison & Bloom.
deRo served as assistant corporation counsel for the City of Charleston for many years while engaged in general practice.
deRo attended St. Philip’s Episcopal Church for many years. He served on its Vestry and was its General Counsel. At his death he attended St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
deRo married Barbara Mordeci in 1947. They had three children: deRossett Myers, Jr., Brooke Myers, and Caroline Myers Bailey, all of whom survive him, along with his brother, Tom, and six grandchildren.
