Paul was born in Greenville on August 12, 1928 and died April 6, 1999. After graduating from Greenville High School, he received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1956, cum laude. While in law school he was a member of Wig and Robe and Editor in Chief of the South Carolina Law Quarterly.
Prior to attending law school Paul served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952 through 1954 and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant.
Paul practiced law in Greenville for 44 years specializing in litigation, insurance defense, products liability, personal injury and torts. At one time he also served as an assistant solicitor.
Paul was a member of the Greenville County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar and the American Bar Association. He was a member of the House of Delegates of the South Carolina Bar from 1980 through 1990. He also served on the Public Defender Board for Greenville County.
Paul was active in his community, serving on the Board of the Speech and Hearing Clinic and as President of the Boys Home of the South. He was an Eagle Scout and served on the Board of Directors of the Blue Ridge Council where he received the Silver Beaver Award for outstanding service with the Boy Scouts.
Paul was a lifelong and active member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church in Greenville. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and served on the Pastoral Counseling Board.
Paul is survived by his wife, Lois, and children, Robert Paul Foster, known as Robin, Lynn Foster Eads and Sallie Foster Bauknight, and eight grandchildren.
