Native of Orangeburg County, son of Thomas Emmet Walsh and Mamie Lupo Walsh, born July 30, 1919, A.B. Wofford College (Phi Beta Kappa); J.D. Duke University. Admitted to Bar, 1947. Five Year Veteran of World War II, rising from private to Major. Awarded Bronze Star.
Began law practice in 1947 in Spartanburg, initially alone, later with Tracy Gaines and subsequently with sons Marshall and William. Representative in General Assembly 1957–1961.
Spartanburg City Attorney 27 years. Expert in municipal law. President, National Institute of Municipal Law, 1977–1978.
President, Spartanburg County Bar, 1974; President, S.C. Bar 1987–1988;
Board Member, Spartanburg Methodist College; Member, S.C. Commission on Higher Education. Board Member, S.C. Methodist Foundation. President, Spartanburg Kiwinis Club. President, Wofford Alumni Association. Consistent supporter of Bethel Methodist Church.
Married Mary Lynch Wentling, seven children, all of whom, with their mother, survive.
