Eugene Cannon Griffith (1936–1990)

Academic graduate, University of South Carolina, 1957; law graduate from USC, 1962. His entire life was in the milieu of law; 14th lawyer in his family line. South Carolina Senate, 1966–68; Newberry City Attorney; Chairman, Republican Party in Newberry County; President, South Carolina Young Republicans; United States Navy, 1957–1960.

One of the founders, Newberry Academy, an educational institution for the benefit of many young people of the City and County of Newberry. Member, Newberry County, South Carolina and American Bar Associations.

His dedication carried him into leadership positions in his church, the Central United Methodist Church. He would never say no when called upon to carry on the work of the Great Commission.

His personal credo was to give of the very best of himself in all worthwhile endeavors; going halfway was not his way. Married Harriett Anne Bruner. Two children: Harriet Leanne Griffith and Eugene Cannon Griffith, Jr.
