William Craig Ehrhardt was born in Charleston, South Carolina on December 13, 1909 to William A. and Helen Craig Ehrhardt. He was educated in the Charleston schools, The Citadel, and USC Law School LL.B. cum laude 1931.
He married Margaret Livingston in 1941; and they had four children: Helen E. Clawson, Margaret E. James, William C. Ehrhardt, Jr., and Walter L. Ehrhardt. He died July 13, 1986, leaving his wife, children, and nine grandchildren.
He was a Captain in World War II, Port of Charleston. He was a sole practitioner for fifty-four years in state federal, trial, and appellate courts. He was a member of Charleston, South Carolina, and American Bar Associations. He represented the city of Charleston for four years, the Commissioner of Public Works for 18 years, and the Catholic Diocese of South Carolina for 45 years. Integrity and industry were hallmarks of his practice. He was Alderman for the City of Charleston; a member of Charleston County Council, and Chairman for two years.
Mr. Ehrhardt was a devoted churchman and lifelong communicant of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. He was Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus; Knight of St. Gregory, knighted by Pope Paul VI.
He was a friendly person, devoted parent and patriotic citizen.
