Judge Henderson was educated at Davidson College, receiving an A.B. and at the University of South Carolina, receiving an LL.B. He was a native of Aiken County and the son of Edward P. Henderson and Harriet Lee Henderson. After being admitted to the Bar, he practiced in Bamberg from 1908 until 1939. He was elected Judge of the Second Judicial Circuit in 1940 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1958.
He held the concept expressed by Robert E. Lee that “Duty is the noblest word in the English language.” He was married to Annie Lou Byrd of Bamberg. He exemplified the highest in professional, ethical and moral standards, and was of a gracious and sympathetic nature. He was punctilious and expeditious in the dispatch of business.
The adage, “Deliberate with caution, but act with decision and promptness,” characterized his conduct before the Bench and Bar.
